Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty)
Abdominoplasty is the most effective and permanent way to get rid of abdominal fat and sagging. Excessive weight-gain or repetitive pregnancy cause sagging of the skin in the abdomen and accumulation of fats in the area of sagging. Even if you do exercises, the sagging of the abdominal area is not removed completely. For these reasons, in order to get rid of abdominal fat deposits and sags, the abdominoplasty need arises.
Abdominoplasty also enables the removal of stretch marks of the abdominal region and body caused by excessive weight loss-gain. Thus, both the abdominal sagging and the stretch marks of the abdomen (postpartum stretches, etc.) are treated.
Evaluation Before Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty)
Not all patients are suitable for abdominoplasty. For this reason, a detailed examination and a realistic approach are required. On examination, the presence of abdominal skin sagging and previous abdominal region surgery are examined.
Patients with excessive abdominal swelling are not an ideal tummy tuck. First of all, they are asked to lose weight, and if this is not possible, it is tried to provide at least some relief by taking only the fat layer and skin which we call panniculectomy.
In the examination before abdominoplasty, after examining the abdominal area, the abdominal area is examined whether there are any stretch marks. All stretch marks below the navel alignment can be completely removed.
Healing Process after Abdominoplasty and Remaining Scars
Abdominoplasty is an operation which lasts for 2-4 hours and you wake up with a tight corset after. We don’t want you to put your body in the upright position for the first 15 days after the surgery. And according to the situation, your hospital stay period is for 2-3 days.
You must rest at home during the discharge period after abdominoplasty. You have to wear your current corset for 3-4 weeks and to extend this period to 3 months is in your favour.
After abdominoplasty, you will have scars extending from the level of your pelvis along the cesarean scar line. These scars grow a bit over time but most of them remain in the underwear border and you can wear a bikini easily. In patients with genetically wound healing disorder, the scars can heal worse but are not very common.
Is the same procedure applied to each patient?
There are different techniques and types of abdominoplasty and the technique of the operation performed changes depending on the condition and the amount of your abdominal sagging. In each abdominoplasty, the scars may not start from your pelvic line. In patients whom the abdominal sagging is localized in the middle region that we call “mini-abdominoplasty“, the scars are only at the level of the underwear line and are not very long.
We can also combine liposuction surgery with abdominoplasty in some patients. In some patient groups, especially after morbid obesity surgery, there may be sagging extending to the back area. In these cases, the scars may extend to the back area.
Who Can Undergo Abdominoplasty And Is It A Permanent Method?
Abdominoplasty is associated with examination findings rather than the age. Each patient with abdominal sagging, abdominal fat, and postpartum stretch marks may undergo abdominoplasty if appropriate after the examination.
Are There Risks of Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Abdominoplasty is a little more troublesome for the patient than our other operations. Patients with chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes may need to be careful and use special blood thinners or pills after the surgery.
After abdominoplasty, even if very rare, the opening of the stitch lines, infection and bleeding can be seen. Although all of these conditions are treated, these increase the duration of hospital stay.
