Tummy Tuck Surgery

Tummy tuck surgery (Abdominoplasty) is an aesthetic operation that corrects fat accumulation, skin sagging, and muscle looseness that occur in the abdominal area after excessive weight gain and loss or repeated pregnancies. These saggings and body stretch marks (especially in the lower belly area), which cannot be eliminated only by diet and sports, are permanently treated with the tummy tuck surgery applied by Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan. Our goal is to ensure you achieve a tight, flat, and aesthetic abdominal profile.

Pre-Surgery Evaluation with Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan

Not every patient may be suitable for standard tummy tuck surgery. During the examination, Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan meticulously evaluates your skin sagging, the condition of your abdominal wall, and any previous surgical scars.
Extremely overweight (borderline obesity) patients may be asked to lose some weight before the surgery; if this is not possible, more limited recovery procedures (panniculectomy) may be planned. In addition, thanks to this surgery, body stretch marks caused by pregnancy or weight loss below the navel level are completely eliminated.

How are the Surgery Process and Recovery Period?

Tummy tuck surgery takes an average of 2-4 hours. You are generally hosted in the hospital for 2 or 3 days for observation after the operation. For the first 15 days, you are not asked to stand upright in order not to put a load on the stitches; you are advised to walk leaning slightly forward.
To accelerate the healing process and support your new abdominal form, it is very important that you regularly use the special corset put on you after surgery for 1 month (up to 3 months depending on the situation). After your resting period at home, you can safely return to your daily life.

Will There Be Scars in Tummy Tuck Surgery?

The surgical incision is planned between both hip bones and as a slightly longer version of a cesarean scar. Thanks to Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan’s special aesthetic stitching techniques, this scar remains completely hidden under your underwear or bikini and is absolutely invisible from the outside. These scars, which heal and fade over time, take a faint form that does not bother our patients besides having a completely flat stomach.

Is the Same Procedure Applied to Every Patient? (Mini Tummy Tuck)

No, the tummy tuck procedure is individually planned according to the degree of sagging. If the sagging and fat accumulation are only below the belly button, in a more limited area, a “Mini Tummy Tuck” procedure is performed, and the incision in this technique is much shorter.
If there is stubborn fat accumulation in the waist and back area in addition to sagging, the surgery is combined with Liposuction (fat removal) to obtain a much curvier waistline. In bariatric surgery (sleeve gastrectomy, etc.) patients who have lost excessive weight, the stretching procedure can be extended towards the back.

What are the Possible Risks of the Surgery?

A tummy tuck is a comprehensive operation that requires slightly more attention from the patient compared to other aesthetic procedures. Blood-thinning treatments are used after surgery to support circulation. Chronic problems such as heart disease or diabetes can affect the healing process. Although very rare, situations such as the opening of stitches or infection may be seen; however, these risks are minimized thanks to Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan’s experience and meticulous follow-up.
