Prominent Ear Aesthetics

Prominent ear surgery (Otoplasty) is an aesthetic procedure performed to correct situations where the ears stand out or are more open from the skull than normal. Applied by Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan, this operation brings the ears to a natural angle compatible with the head. This aesthetic problem, which can especially lead to a loss of self-confidence in social life, is permanently solved with a short intervention.

Ideal Surgery Age and Early Treatment

The development of ear cartilages is largely completed at the age of 4-5. This period, when the cartilages are softer and most suitable for shaping, is ideal for surgery. This intervention, performed in the preschool period, prevents children from being psychologically affected.
However, in cases noticed during infancy (especially the first 1 year), successful results can be achieved even just by using special ear bandages without the need for surgery at all.

Surgery Process with Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan

In our country, ear aesthetics applications are generally made in the 20s. In adults, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes an average of 60 minutes.
Op. Dr. Görkem Çalışkan reaches the cartilages with a small incision he makes behind the ear. He removes the necessary parts and reshapes the cartilage with permanent stitches, fixing it at the right angle.

Bandage Usage and Healing After Surgery

There will be a wrapped dressing on your ear for the first 2 days after the surgery. Then this dressing is removed, and a protective ear bandage is switched to.
We recommend that you wear this bandage continuously for the first 30 days so that the cartilages fully adapt to their new shape. After the 10th day, you can switch to sports bandanas or tennis bands, which are more comfortable. After the 30th day, it is enough to wear the bandage only while sleeping at night. It is very important to protect your ears from friction and pillow impacts, especially for the first 2 months.

Will There Be Scars After Surgery? Do the Stitches Open?

Since the surgical incision is hidden in the natural fold behind the ear, no scar is visible from the outside. Your stitches are removed within 2-3 weeks, and the edemas are completely gone by this time.
Depending on cartilage stiffness in adults, the probability of the stitches opening within the first 2 years is very low (3-5%). If such a rare situation occurs, the problem is easily corrected with a minor revision by entering through the same incision.
